LE CITTÀ CONTINUE
Le Città Continue is a piece inspired by the book The Invisible Cities, written by Italian author Italo Calvino. Commissioned by the society “Freunde junger Musiker” in Frankfurt, the piece was first written for the German Quartet ‘Notos’ and premiered at Teatro la Fenice in Venice. The piece explores Marco Polo’s remembrances of Venice as he visits the cities of the vast Tatar Empire on behalf of the Emperor Kublai Khan In this piece I took a series of elements from the Venetian popular tradition as well as from the late Renaissance/early Baroque repertoire featuring also some Choral pieces by composer Andrea Gabrieli, and I combined them into a narrative one-movement piece.
